Rod Paton

Managing Director

After many years of managing theatrical curtain workrooms for major companies, Rod eventually realised a long held desire to introduce a company which is solely dedicated to the manufacture and supply of quality theatrical fabrics and curtains for the Australian market.

Rod’s experience over the past 20+ years includes supplying stage drapes to most of the leading Australian arts institutions and major venues around the country, most notably and recently including the full refit of all Sydney Opera House venues.

Rod has a passion for his chosen field and is constantly looking to improve fabric ranges and manufacturing processes.

Fun fact! Rod loves gardening and has on two occasions, grown GIANT pumpkins in excess of 100kgs each!! His largest came in at a whopping 160kgs!

Vanessa Collins

Creative Supervisor

Vanessa brings a wealth of experience and reliability to the Theatre Star team.

Having spent many years manufacturing stage drapery for leading suppliers such as Scenic Studios and Theatrical Supplies Of Australia, Vanessa then progressed to Theatre Drapery Production Manager at Bytecraft Entertainment Showdrapes Division. Vanessa earnt the trust and respect of her peers for the quality of work and attention to detail. Vanessa is insanely talented and loves a challenge! If you think it can’t be done, Vanessa will make it happen!

Vanessa is also a qualified Interior Designer and is proficient in AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Suite, SketchUp and more.

In her time outside of work you will find Vanessa on her farm in country Victoria, enjoying the serenity and living her best life with family and all of her 4 legged friends!

Shirley Jensen

Sales and Administration

Shirley made her first theatre drape for the school hall stage using a domestic sewing machine on the family dining room table when she was 15.

As well as the occasional onstage appearance, she has turned her hand to costumes making, set building, special effects make-up, lighting rigging, stage management and production management.

Theatre lighting became her focus, working on the lighting crew at Arts Centre Melbourne then in the UK at the Piccadilly Theatre and

building special lighting and other effects for productions worldwide at Howard Eaton Lighting UK.

Returning to Australia to live, Shirley began work at Bytecraft Entertainment (Now PRG) in technical lighting sales and had 2 daughters with husband Murray. She eventually joined Rod in the Showdrapes Division and they have now reunited at Theatre Star.

Attempting to establish an edible front garden, including a weird range of vegetables such as cucamelons and tomatillos, is an ongoing project.

Grace Yang-Paton

Accounts Coordinator

There is always one “behind the scenes” superstar in every business and for Theatre Star it is this gem! Grace works remotely and vigorously behind the scenes and her expertise and business knowledge is priceless. She does a fantastic job at keeping things ticking over, plus she pays our wages…we love her!!!


Super sewer

Mei is an extremely talented machinist with many years of experience.  She is happy to learn new things and always full of energy and ready for a challenge.

Mei is very family oriented and loves to spend time with her grandchildren.
