Proposal – Design a tracking/curtain system to transform an existing large classroom into a functional drama/performance space and back to a classroom space when required.

Challenge – Our tracking and curtain system needed to create a suitable environment for performing in terms of light and acoustic control, performer and audience access and user experience, whilst being able to store away to allow for a standard classroom setup. Many windows with direct sunlight exist along both walls.

Solutions – We designed a single-run tracking system with curved corners and a storage area for the drapes when not in use. Pleated drapes were manufactured in our black IFR Infinity Wool which is ideal for this purpose.  The drapes were made in manageable sections which overlapped at the sides. A flat, top valance was installed to prevent light leakage.

Outcome – The transformation of the room created an intimate drama area to complement and enhance the performing arts capacity of the school.
